Born on 14th May 1971 in Zgierz.
In 2000 graduated from the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw.
In the early 1990s was self-employed. Between 1997 and 2001 was employed at the prime minister's chancellery as adviser and personal secretary of Prime Minister Jerzy Buzek. In 2002 worked at the Polonia University in Częstochowa. In 2006-2007 managed a private company and was deputy president of a municipal enterprise.
From 1994 to 1998 - member of Zgierz City Council; 1998-2002 - member of Zgierz District Council. From 2002 to 2006 - deputy mayor of Zgierz. In 2006-2007 was deputy speaker of Łódzkie Provincial Parliament.
Was member of the Polish Paralympic Committee and deputy chairman of the National Coordinating Committee of the Independent Students' Association. Member of the Council on Public Benefit Activities.
From February 4 to October 14, 2009 - Secretary of State in the Ministry of Justice. Since October 14, 2009 - Minister of Justice.
Member of the Civic Platform Party of Poland and of its municipal, regional and national authorities.
Married, has two children.
