Born on 15th February 1951 in Dulsk (Kujawsko-Pomorskie Province). In 1975, graduated from the Agricultural Faculty at the Academy of Agriculture and Technology in Olsztyn. In 1979, obtained the degree of doctor of agricultural sciences and, in 1986, the degree of doctor habilitated. In 1993, obtained the title of professor. Visiting professor at numerous universities in the United States, Japan, Italy and Great Britain. Became an academic teacher in 1975. Since 1991 - director of the Department of Plant Physiology and Biochemistry (now the Department of Plant Physiology and Biotechnology) at the Biology Faculty at the Academy of Agriculture and Technology in Olsztyn. 1996-1999 - vice rector of the Academy for educational affairs. Since 1999, first rector of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, which he helped to establish. Published numerous scientific works. Co-author of academic textbooks and scientific books. Corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Sciences since 2004. Member of the Polish Experimental Plant Biology Society, Olsztyn Scientific Forum and International Society for Seed Science. Chairman of the Academic Sports Association in Olsztyn. In the Sixth Term Senate was member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Science, Education and Sports Committee.
