In 1968, graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at Silesian University of Technology. In 1974, obtained the degree of doctor and in 1983, the degree of doctor habilitated in technical sciences from the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow. In 1998, obtained the scientific title of professor.
In 1975, became as senior lecturer at the Higher Engineering School in Opole. Subsequently worked there as docent and assistant professor. 1977-2004 - dean of the Department of Electromechanical System Automation and Diagnosis and then director of the Institute of Electromechanical Systems and Industrial Electronics.
1980-1981 - visiting scholar at Technical University Delft in the Netherlands. Collaborated with German and Czech technical universities in Ostrava, Stuttgart and Schweinfurt.
In 1990, was elected rector of the Higher School of Engineering in Opole and held that position for two terms until 1996. Transformed that school into Opole University of Technology and served as its rector from 1999 to 2005, also for two terms.
In 1996, was appointed to the Central Council on Higher Education and served there as deputy chairman of the Section on Technical Higher Educational Institutions (until 1999) and head of the Team on the Quality of Education in Higher Educational Institutions.
1998-2000 - represented the minister of national education as coordinator of the steering committee of PHARE Programme of Cooperation in Higher Education and, 2000-2002 - of the Multilateral Higher Education Cooperation Programme.
Author of four books, four monographs and over 130 scientific articles published in Polish and international periodicals.
2002-2005 - deputy to Opole Provincial Parliament and chairman of its education, science, culture and social communication committee.
Member of the Solidarity Trade Union and Civic Platform political party.
Married, has two children.
