Born on 4th December 1961 in Krakow.

W 1985, graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy and History at Jagiellonian University in Krakow. In 2001, obtained the degree of doctor of political sciences from the Polish Academy of Sciences.

1995-2005 - chief editor of Znak monthly magazine. Academic teacher, since 2003 - rector of Tischner European University in Krakow. Published many books and several hundred articles, mainly on current affairs.

In the 1990s, was member of the Polish Episcopal Committee for the Dialogue with Unbelievers, Archdiocese Priesthood Council and Supervisory Council of Saint Nicholas Foundation.

No political party affiliation.

Married, has three children.
