Born on 15th February 1951 in Dulsk (Kujawsko-Pomorskie Province).

In 1975, graduated from the Agricultural Faculty at the Academy of Agriculture and Technology in Olsztyn. In 1979, obtained the degree of doctor of agricultural sciences and, in 1986, the degree of doctor habilitated from the Academy. In 1993, obtained the title of professor. Published numerous scientific works. Co-author of academic textbooks and scientific books. Visiting professor at numerous universities in the United States, Japan, Italy and Great Britain.

Became an academic teacher in 1975. Since 1991 - dean of the Faculty of Plant Physiology and Biochemistry (now the Faculty of Plant Physiology and Biotechnology) at the Academy of Agriculture and Technology in Olsztyn. 1996-1999 - vice rector of the Academy for educational affairs. Since 1999, first rector of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, which he helped to establish.

Member of the Polish Society of Experimental Plant Biology, Olsztyn Scientific Forum and International Society for Seed Science. Corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
