Born on 5th September 1947 in Syrynia (Silesian Province).

Graduated from the Christian Philosophy Faculty of the Catholic University of Lublin in 1970. In 1973 received the doctoral degree and in 1980 the degree of Doctor Habilitated in Experimental and Industrial Psychology. In 1990, obtained the title of Professor and, in 1992, the position of Full Professor. Completed specialized studies in decision analysis at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (1975-1976) and Decision Research in Eugene, Oregon (1982-1983). Was a recipient of the Kościuszko, Fulbright and Humbold Foundation scholarships.

In 1993-1998, was the Dean of the Social Science Faculty at the Catholic University of Lublin. Presently heads the Decision Analysis Department and the Organization & Management Psychology Department at that university.

Author of pioneering work in the fields of psychology, philosophy and economy. Between 1993 and 1998, during two terms, was a member of Centralna Komisja do Spraw Tytułu i Stopni Naukowych (Central Commission for the Scientific Title and Degrees). Chairman of Ogólnopolskie Forum Stowarzyszeń Uwłaszczeniowych "Własność i Gospodarność" (National Forum of Enfranchisement Associations). Member of the Solidarity Trade Union. Was a member of Solidarity leadership at the Catholic University of Lublin.

From 1997 to 2001 was a deputy to the Sejm and member of its State Treasury, Enfranchisement and Privatization Committee, Transportation and Communication Committee, and Special Committee Examining the Draft Legislation on Re-privatization of Privately Owned Immovable and Certain Movable Assets Appropriated by the State or the Municipality of the Capital City of Warsaw, and on Compensations.

In the Fifth Term Senate, was a member of the Emigration and Poles Abroad Committee, and the State Treasury and Infrastructure Committee. Initiated legislation which amended certain immovable property ownership acquisition laws and, consequently, made it possible to enfranchise workplace-owned residential dwellings which had been sold jointly with their tenants.

2003-2004 - observer in the European Parliament; 1st May - 19th July 2004 - member of the European Parliament. Initiated the creation of an inter-group within the European Union called "Family in Europe".
