Robert Maciej Smoktunowicz

Born on 30th January 1962 in Warsaw.

In 1986, graduated from Warsaw University Faculty of Law and Administration.

After articling to became an attorney, started a legal practice in 1991. Manages the law firm R. Smoktunowicz & L. Falandysz. Serves as adviser and expert to numerous foreign and Polish companies. Since 1995 - legal adviser to the Italian embassy in Poland. 1996-1998 - legal adviser to the National Broadcasting Council.

Head of Stowarzyszenie Klub Nowe Centrum ("New Centre Club" Association) and deputy head of Stowarzyszenie Obywatele dla Rzeczypospolitej ("Citizens for the Republic" Association).

In the 1980s, was actively involved in the Independent Students' Association at Warsaw University and in Warsaw. Was active in Ruch Młodej Polski (Young Poland Movement) and co-founded Ruch Polityki Realnej (Real Politics Movement) and Klub im. Adama Smitha ("Adam Smith" Club). Served as adviser to Andrzej Olechowski and representative of his election committee during the 2000 presidential election campaign. During the parliamentary election campaign in 2001, was legal adviser to the Civic Platform political party and representative of its election committee. In the Fifth Term Senate, was member of the Legislation and the Rule of Law Committee.

Member of the National Council of the Civic Platform.

Married, has two children.
