Jerzy Marek Szymura

Born on 18th June 1949 in Rybnik.

In 1972, graduated from the Faculty of Automation and Information Technology at Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice.

Directly after graduation, started work in the Software Development Team at the Real Time IT Institute of Silesian University of Technology.

1983-1987 - assistant professor at the Central Mining Institute in Katowice.

From the mid-1980s, has been involved with new technology companies. In 1984, helped to establish the first private computer company in Silesia, Micomp, and directed it until 1990. 1987-1995 - director general and, between 1995 and 2000, chairman of the supervisory board of Techmex S.A. company in Bielsko-Biała.

1989-1992 - member of the management board of Techmex Far East Pte. Ltd. in Singapore.

1992-2005 - chairman of the management board of 2Si S.A. company in Katowice.

During 20 years of business activities in Silesia, created a group of IT companies engaged in software programming, computer equipment sales and IT system integration. In 2002, the group was among the largest telecommunications companies in Poland. In the 1990s, was involved in the development of private enterprise in Silesia. Helped to establish Górnośląskie Towarzystwo Gospodarcze (Upper Silesia Economic Society) and Górnośląski Bank Gospodarczy SA (now Getin Bank), and served as chairman of that bank's audit commission.

In the past few years, has been active in transforming the southern part of Poland covering four provinces situated along the A-4 highway into a European high-tech industry region. Initiated the creation of the Association of New Technology Highway Companies, which he chairs.

Recipient of numerous awards and distinctions for achievements in management and enterprise development. In a plebiscite held by Dziennik Zachodni newspaper, made the group of "100 Smartest Silesians".

Married, has a son.
